AMAZON SMILE -- SHOP, AND SUPPORT HEARTLAND CENTER WHILE DOING IT!

We are excited to share that we have become affiliated with Amazon Smile.  This is a program that uses the purchases you make as a means to donate to the Center; being a non-profit allows us to qualify. Through the "Amazon Smile" program, whenever you make a purchase on Amazon,  0.5% of your purchase cost will be donated to Heartland Center.

To participate, instead of going to the Amazon Website, go to Amazon Smile. The first time you do so, the site will prompt you for the charitable organization you are supporting. Search for "Heartland Presbyterian Center," and select it as your preferred charity. Your purchase(s) will then lead to an amount of 0.5% of the price being donated to Heartland Center at no additional cost to you.

Thanks for your continued support! It is because of you that we are able to provide a Christian camping experience to so many youth in our churches and our communities.

WALKING THE PRAYER TRAIL . . .

Fourteen years ago, campers in Heartland's Work Camp built a new prayer trail. It provided several beautiful stops where one could engage in personal meditation.  The trail continued to evolve with the help of Marilyn Lake, a director of the Hand-Bell Camp. She, with the women of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley, made beautiful mosaic stepping stones for each of the eight stations, reflecting the Seal of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Since then, the trail has been maintained and improved by volunteers from many different churches and scout troops.

Each station of the present Prayer Trail is composed of a symbol and a scripture reading. It begins at the Cross, the foundation for our Christian faith, and then moves to the Water of the Cup and the Baptismal Font.  The Descending Dove at the third station symbolizes the gift and presence of the Holy Spirit.

The Sign of the Fish is found at the fourth station; this was one of the earliest symbols Christians used to identify themselves.  At station five is the Bible, God's revelation for us.  We find the Pulpit at station six, representing proclamation of the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Fire at station seven represents the burning bush encountered by Moses, as well as the flames descending on believers at Pentecost. Finally, at station eight, we find the Triangle representing Trinity, and the colors Red, White and Blue, symbolizing blood, innocence and holiness.

The trail continues to be maintained and improved by volunteers from many different churches and scout troops.  Being able to meditate in the beauty of the grounds is one of the blessings provided here at Heartland Center.  As a spiritual discipline, meditation is healthy, nurturing and relaxing.  It, most importantly, provides an opportunity to draw closer to God in a faith-enriching experience.
